After the publications in Japanese (Ohta Shuppan, 2001), French (Ego comme X, 2001), Spanish, German (Ponent Mon, 2003), English (Fanfare / Ponent Mon, 2003, 2007), Italian (Coconino Press, 2004), Complex Chinese (Dala Publishing, 2005) and Portuguese (Conrad Editora, 2005), Yukiko's Spinach has just been released in Polish by Kultura Gniewu.

First edition in English of the book by Frédéric Boilet, Benoît Peeters and Jirô Taniguchi !

After a whole year of research in 1993 in Tôkyô, where he had stayed with the support of a grant from the publisher Kôdansha, Frédéric Boilet started the drawings of Tôkyô is my Garden while living at the Villa Kujôyama in Kyôto in 1994. He completed the 135 pages of the book the following year at L'Atelier des Vosges in Paris, after more than four years of effort.

Created with Benoît Peeters, the book has also benefited from the exceptional collaboration of famous Japanese author Jirô Taniguchi, who put the delicate, Japanese-like gray tones over Frédéric Boilet's black and white drawings.

Après quinze années d'un séjour quasi ininterrompu, je suis au Japon sans y avoir rien vu.
Je ne me suis jamais offert les services d'une geisha et n'ai croisé aucun samouraï, je n'ai pas assisté à la parade du mariage princier et l'extrême droite nippone a négligé de m'insulter, je n'ai pas visité le temple d'or de Kyôto et ne me suis pas plus approché des cerfs de Nara, je n'ai passé aucune nuit dans un hôtel capsule ni aperçu un seul pousseur dans le métro de Tôkyô... Mais il y a pire, l'incompréhensible, l'inexcusable négligence, j'ose à peine l'avouer : je suis au Japon sans avoir vu le Mont Fuji !
Que vont penser mes anciens amis de Nancy, eux qui parvenaient, chaque été et avec quel brio, à visiter toutes les choses indispensables d'un pays, en un mot à le "faire" ? Ainsi Michel qui, en juillet 1987, avait fait la Thaïlande, ou ce vieux Roger, à qui il n'avait pas fallu plus de trois semaines pour faire la Chine !
Voilà bien un souvenir, celui de mes chers amis, qui m'invite à l'humilité, peut-être au regret : non, décidément, je n'ai pas fait le Japon.

Japan as viewed by 17 creators translated into seven languages !
On June 16, 2006, the book received in Japan the Special Award from the Japan Cartoonists Association.

« Seventeen authors (nine from France or French-speaking countries, eight from Japan) brought together in the same book, a succession of freely created short stories about the same universe : Japan.
The French, of course, journeyed to Japan for the occasion. Each cartoonist was sent for two weeks to a different city in the archipelago (Joann Sfar in Tokyo, Emmanuel Guibert in Kyoto, Nicolas de Crécy in Nagoya, etc.) to bring back an original creation.
The Japanese tell us about their district, the city where they live or where they originally come from (Kazuichi Hanawa's story being about the northern island of Hokkaido, Jiro Taniguchi's about the town of Tottori, Daisuke Igarashi about Iwate, etc.)... The result is often inspired, always surprising : Japan through new eyes.
Japan will appear simultaneously in Dutch, English, French, Italian, Japanese and Spanish. Along with A Patch Of Dreams by Hideji Oda, it is the first step in a series of international creations with left-to-right reading direction, created for us by some of the best European and Japanese comic book artists. »

First presented in October 2005 at the Bunsei University of Art in Utsunomiya (Japan), then in April 2006 at the ABC cinema in Toulouse (France), in October 2006 at the Festival Internacional de Banda Desenhada in Amadora (Portugal) and the in May 2007 at the Quinto Encuentro Internacional de Historietas in La Paz, the Nouvelle Manga exhibition opened on October 16, 2007 in Belo Horizonte, on the occasion of the 5e Festival Internacional de Quadrinhos, and on November 1, 2007 in Barcelona, on the occasion of the XIII Saló del Manga.

The exhibition showed original plates and reproductions from the anthology Japan as viewed by 17 creators (Fanfare / Ponent Mon 2006) as well as drawings from Fraise et Chocolat (Ponent Mon 2006), A Patch of Dreams by Hideji Oda (Fanfare / Ponent Mon 2005), Mariko Parade by Kan Takahama and Frédéric Boilet (Fanfare / Ponent Mon 2004) and Yukiko's Spinach by Frédéric Boilet (Fanfare / Ponent Mon 2003-2007).

As official guests, Kan Takahama was in Belo Horizonte from October 16 to 21, Aurélia Aurita and Frédéric Boilet were in Barcelona from November 1 to 4.

An Aygo car customized by Frédéric Boilet is presented at Le Rendez-vous Toyota until October 22, 2007.

The Nouvelle Manga exhibition was held in May 2007 at the Museo Tambo Quirquincho in La Paz, on the occasion of the Quinto Encuentro Internacional de Historietas.

As official guests of the festival and the Alliance française of Cochabamba, Aurélia Aurita and Frédéric Boilet were in La Paz and Cochabamba from May 17 to 22.
